Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases in which pressure builds up in the eye, damaging the optic nerve and causing a loss of eyesight. Closed-angle glaucoma blocks the movement of fluid in the eye. This raises the pressure inside the eye. Closed-angle glaucoma almost always comes on very fast, with pain in the eye and blurry vision. These symptoms are often brought on by entering a dark room or using eyedrops that dilate the pupils.
Delaying treatment can cause permanent damage and even blindness. Treatment for glaucoma cannot reverse vision loss that has already occurred, but it can delay or prevent further vision loss.

Ask your doctor if you can take an over-the-counter pain medicine if needed, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), or naproxen (Aleve). Read and follow all instructions on the label.

Call your doctor now or seek immediate medical care if:
You have a sudden loss of vision.
You have new or increasing eye pain.
You have new changes in vision in either eye.
Watch closely for changes in your health, and be sure to contact your doctor if:
You are not getting better as expected.
You have any problems with your medicine or eyedrops.
